Solid carbide chip breaker spiral tooling is designed for CNC routing applications where efficient chip control, reduced cutting resistance and reliable performance are required.

The staggered chip breaker geometry divides the removed material into smaller chips, helping to reduce vibration and cutting load while maintaining a good edge finish. These tools are particularly suited to plywood, hardwood and other dense wood-based materials.

Upcut and Downcut Chip Breaker Spirals

Upcut chip breaker spirals direct chips upwards and away from the cutting area, providing efficient chip evacuation during routing.

Downcut chip breaker spirals direct the cutting action downwards, helping to maintain a clean upper edge and providing additional downward cutting force when machining smaller or securely clamped workpieces.

The most suitable geometry depends on the material, workholding, required edge quality and machining operation.

Two and Three Flute Chip Breaker Tooling

Prima Tooling supplies solid carbide chip breaker spirals in both two-flute and three-flute configurations, with upcut and downcut geometries available to suit different CNC routing applications.

Chip breaker slots are staggered between the cutting flutes, allowing the cutter to break the removed material into smaller sections while maintaining a continuous cutting action.
