TCT Cutting Tools

Prima Tooling designs and manufactures TCT cutting tools in the UK for woodworking, panel processing, plastics and other industrial machining applications.

TCT — tungsten carbide tipped — tooling combines a precision-manufactured tool body with brazed carbide cutting edges. This construction allows robust cutters to be produced in a wide range of diameters, profiles and configurations while retaining the wear resistance of tungsten carbide.

From our manufacturing facility in Essex, we produce both standard and bespoke TCT router cutters, spindle tooling, profile cutters, drilling tools, groovers and specialist tooling for CNC and production machinery.

TCT Cutting Tools UK – Manufactured in Essex

TCT remains an important cutting-tool material for many production applications.

It is particularly useful where the required cutter geometry, diameter or profile makes a steel-bodied tipped tool a practical solution. Cutting edges can also be sharpened and, where technically suitable, damaged or worn tips can be replaced rather than replacing the complete tool.

Bespoke TCT Cutting Tools

A substantial part of Prima Tooling's work is the manufacture of tooling that cannot simply be selected from a catalogue.

We can manufacture bespoke TCT tooling from:

CAD files
existing cutters
component samples
finished profiles
individual machining requirements

Bespoke tooling can include router cutters, profiled cutter blocks, groovers, combination tooling, drills, countersinks and specialist forms.

TCT Sharpening, Retipping and Repair

TCT tooling does not necessarily need replacing when the cutting edges become worn.

Where technically suitable, Prima Tooling can:

restore cutting profiles
replace damaged or worn carbide tips
inspect tool bodies for damage
repair suitable production tooling

TCT, PCD or Solid Carbide?

The best cutting material depends on the application.

TCT may be particularly appropriate where a substantial steel tool body, complex profile or replaceable brazed cutting edge is desirable. Solid carbide may suit smaller diameter tooling and particular router applications, while PCD offers extremely high wear resistance for demanding abrasive-material and high-volume applications.

Prima Tooling manufactures in TCT, PCD, solid carbide and HSS, allowing the tooling material and geometry to be selected around the actual machining requirement rather than forcing every application into one tool type.
