Prima Tooling’s extensive ranges of high-quality milling cutters come in a wide variety of different shapes, sizes, and types. Our milling cutters are available in multiple different materials, including high-speed steel (HSS), solid tungsten carbide, and polycrystalline diamond (PCD). The various ranges of milling cutters we stock and supply are designed to be ideal for specific applications, and many of our collections are available to be made bespoke for your specific needs. Some of our milling cutters can be re-tipped or re-sharpened for longer tool life.
Let’s take a quick look at some of the incredible milling cutters we supply here at Prima Tooling:
End Mills
End mills are defined by the teeth carved into the end of the tool, rather than just the sides. End mills are the most common type of milling cutter used in CNC tooling due to their versatility. Different types of end mill are designed to leave a different type of finish on the workpiece, or bore a different type of hole. At Prima Tooling we stock a fantastic range of end mills from carbide end mills for machining superalloys with ease to PCD end mills for cutting delicate composites with precision.
Roughing Cutters
Roughing cutters have many alternative names, including roughing end cutters, ripper cutters, or simply roughing end mills. Roughing cutters are equipped with deep serrated teeth to maximise material excavation, but leave a rough and unrefined finish on the workpiece. Our solid carbide roughing spirals can be used for feed rates from 5 to 24 meters a minute, and can operate with a max speed of 24,000 RPM.
Finishing Cutters
As the name may imply, finishing cutters are designed to be used after roughing cutters, in order to smooth off the workpiece and leave a professional finish. Finishing cutters are designed with many flutes to give them a very smooth exterior, but this leaves smaller area for chip ejection which lowers the maximum feed rate. Our solid carbide finishing spirals can operate at a feed rate up to 10 meters a minute, with a max speed of 24,000 RPM.
