Real Tooling Projects
Prima Tooling’s cutting tool case studies show how we work with tooling distributors and manufacturers to solve complex production problems. Our experience covers standard, modified and bespoke PCD, TCT, solid carbide and HSS tooling for demanding manufacturing applications.
Cutting Tool Case Studies from Real Manufacturing Projects
Many of the tools we manufacture are supplied through specialist distributors. This means we often support the distributor with the technical design, manufacture and servicing of the tooling while they manage the relationship with the end customer.
Our work can range from reproducing an individual specialist cutter to redesigning an entire production tooling range. Each project is based on genuine manufacturing requirements, drawings, samples, production feedback and practical experience.
These cutting tool case studies demonstrate Prima Tooling’s capabilities in:
- Bespoke cutting-tool design
- PCD and TCT tooling manufacture
- Tool geometry and clearance-angle development
- Production tooling redesign
- Repeat manufacture from retained specifications
- Sharpening, retipping and long-term servicing
- Confidential support for tooling distributors
Complete Tooling Redesign for a Major Kitchen Manufacturer
Through an established tooling distributor, Prima Tooling redesigned more than 30 cutting-tool styles for one of the UK’s largest kitchen manufacturers.
The twelve-month project covered four UK production sites and included edgebanding blocks, profiled routers, hoggers, compression routers, trepanning cutters, scoring saws and finger-pull cutters. The successful tooling range was later reproduced for a new manufacturing facility in the United States.
